Is Freedom Forever Still in Business? What to Do If Your System Isn't Turned On

If your Freedom Forever solar system is sitting on your roof but never switched on — or it failed inspection and no one from the company has called back — you're not alone, and it's fixable. Here's what actually happened and what to do next.

Is Freedom Forever still in business? No. Freedom Forever filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 15, 2026. A proposed sale of the company to a group led by its own CEO failed to win approval from unsecured creditors, and on August 7, 2026 the case converted to Chapter 7 liquidation — full stop, not a reorganization. Most employees were terminated. There is no operating company left to call.

If your system was installed but never turned on

This is a different problem from a system that's been running for years and just lost its warranty support. A newly-installed solar system has to clear two more steps before it can legally operate:

1. A passed final inspection from your local building department (the AHJ — Authority Having Jurisdiction), confirming the installation meets code.
2. Permission to Operate (PTO) — sign-off from your utility (SDG&E, in most of our service area) authorizing interconnection to the grid.

Widely reported customer accounts describe systems that failed their final inspection because Freedom Forever didn't show up to correct whatever the inspector flagged, or systems that were never scheduled for inspection at all — installed and then abandoned mid-process as the bankruptcy unfolded. Either way, the result is the same: a system sitting on the roof, fully built, that cannot legally be switched on until someone finishes the paperwork and the physical fix.

Does my loan or lease change?

No — and this is the part most homeowners get wrong. Your financing agreement is a separate contract between you and your lender, not Freedom Forever. Court filings named several financing partners that were granted relief by the bankruptcy court specifically so they could resume and complete stranded installations: Credit Human, EnFin, EverBright, GoodLeap, Participate, Project Solar, and Sunrun. If one of these is financing your system, your loan or lease terms are unchanged by Freedom Forever's liquidation.

What's actually missing is someone local and licensed to physically finish the job — correct the inspection deficiency, get the final sign-off, and push the utility paperwork through. That's a completion service, not a financing decision, and it's exactly what we do.

1. Confirm whether your final inspection has actually happened — check with your city or county building department using your permit number.
2. Contact your financing company directly (see the list above) — ask whether they have a designated completion contractor for your area, or whether you're free to choose your own.
3. Keep all your Freedom Forever paperwork: contract, permit number, inspection notices, and equipment serial numbers. Whoever finishes the job will need these.
